Changing your SEO title tags in Shopify

By Ilana Davis

The title tag is an important part of your Shopify store’s on-page SEO, along with a few other things.

A customer of JSON-LD for SEO emailed asking about how to change the titles without editing the theme directly.

First off, most pages in Shopify have two titles

  • actual titles
  • SEO titles

The actual title is used as the header on the page. These are the product name, the blog post title, or the collection name.

The SEO title is used in the browser tab and by Google in the search results but is invisible in the actual page content.

To change the SEO titles, look for the Search engine listing preview -> Page title. Products, collections, and Pages all have them.

Example of Shopify SEO meta fields on product pages. The text on Shopify reads: Add a title and description to see how this product might appear in a search engine listing.

Below is an example of one of my products with the SEO title at the bottom.

Notice how it’s a different title than the product name.

Change that and your product page title will change.
