Link related collections

As you create content for your collections, don't forget to add links to other collections.
Using the collection description to link to other collections is a good way to draw traffic to those other collections. For example, you can link to
- alternative collection pages
- complimentary collection pages
- dynamic collections like your "best sellers" or "clearance"
For visitors, this provides a way for them to dive deeper into your store. This is especially helpful if you have a lot of products and collections. Only so many items can fit in your menus so having links to more collections can expose them to other products. It also lets them reorient themselves if they become lost without hitting the back button or leaving.
Search engines use those same internal links to understand which pages are important. Menu links are powerful but since they are on every page, don't stand out as much to Google's algorithm. Otherwise stores would just flood their menus with all their internal links. But when multiple pages are linking to a collection, it can be a sign of importance. Adding links in this way can also help you to break your collections in to smaller bites.
What I like to do is to question myself when writing a collection's content:
- Are there any collections that can compliment this collection?
- Are there any collections that would be an alternative to this collection?
- Would linking to new products make sense from this collection?
- Would linking to a collection of products on sale make sense?
- What are the top three collections that aren't in the main menus? Would linking to one of them work in this content?
Depending on your content length, adding one to three links usually works well. Don't feel obligated though, there's no hard rule that says you must add links.
Also consider if there are any other pages that would work well. Links to important blog posts, informational pages, or even complementary products may also make sense.
Building out these internal links will help both your visitors as well as your SEO.
