How-To guides can increase your visibility in search results

By Ilana Davis

Google often changes its algorithm and rewards those who create high-quality content. One way to do that is to create how-to guides.

Many search queries start with the words "How to". It makes sense to create an article that answers the questions your customers could be asking. The best way to do that is to use a how-to guide.

Google search preview with how to typed in and then Google autopopulating some possible questions searchers ask. Such as how to tie a tie or how to draw or how to make french toast and so on.

TCHO does a great job providing how-to guides with step-by-step instructions. Some of their how-to guides include:

  • How to make chocolate icing
  • How to make chocolate last longer
  • How to make hot chocolate

Notice how they use the how-to guide to compliment their product (which is very delicious I might add).

Digging into their How to Temper Chocolate blog post, they have all the necessary pieces to make a great article. The supplies, the steps, and the great imagery are all there. It's the perfect way to answer a potential customer question while providing quality content for search engines.

Even better news is that you can now add the HowTo markup to your structured data using JSON-LD for SEO. All that quality content can qualify for search enhancements such as HowTo Rich Results.

The HowTo Generator in JSON-LD for SEO can create the data needed using Shopify metafields. With a few copy and paste efforts, you can have the data added to any page on your Shopify store in no time.
